Software Engineer UI/UX

This role has been designed as ‘Hybrid’ with an expectation that you will work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Description:

Job Family Definition:

Designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for software enhancements and new products. Develops software including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases and Internet-related tools. Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design.

Management Level Definition:

Contributions include applying developed subject matter expertise to solve common and sometimes complex technical problems and recommending alternatives where necessary. Might act as project lead and provide assistance to lower level professionals. Exercises independent judgment and consults with others to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives.

Responsibilities:

User Research & Analysis

• Conduct user research, interviews, and surveys to understand user needs and behaviors.
• Analyze user feedback and activity to iterate and improve the user experience.

UX Strategy & Design

• Develop UX strategies aligned with business goals.
• Create user personas, customer journey maps, and user flows.

UI Design & Prototyping

• Design visually appealing, user-centered interfaces.
• Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups using tools like Figma.

Interaction Design

• Define interactive behaviors and animations.
• Ensure consistency across UI elements and interaction patterns.

Design Systems & Guidelines

• Build and maintain design systems or component libraries.
• Enforce brand consistency across all digital products.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to implement designs.
• Present and justify design decisions with clear rationale and user-centered reasoning.

Usability Testing & Iteration

• Plan and conduct usability tests and A/B tests.
• Analyze results and refine designs based on feedback.

Accessibility & Responsiveness

• Design with accessibility standards (WCAG) in mind.
• Ensure responsive design for various devices and screen sizes.

Performance Optimization

• Collaborate with developers to optimize UI for performance.
• Evaluate and iterate on existing UI to improve loading times and responsiveness.

Others

• Leads a project team of other software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for assigned systems portion or subsystem.
• Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding software systems design status, project progress, and issue resolution.
• Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.

Education and Experience Required:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• Typically 4-6 years experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Proficient in Figma or similar tools.
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript for prototyping and developer handoff.
• Experience with design systems (e.g., Material Design, Carbon).
• Strong understanding of UX principles, human-centered design, and usability testing.
• Ability to analyze user data and behavior to drive design decisions.
• Experience in Agile or cross-functional teams.
• Experience designing for web and cross-platform products.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.
